The Warm Drink and Candle Practice
There are 2 ways you can do this practice
Prepare your warm drink, and then prepare your space by lighting a candle. Of course, you can create a simple altar that you tend and visit every day for this practice.
I invite you to also have at least one more external resource for comfort such as an anchor object ( though you can use the candle for this as well) and/or a blanket/scarf/shawl.
Then, take your place at your candle with your warm drink and play the audio recording.
Alternative:
Prepare your warm drink, and then prepare your space by lighting a candle.
Set a timer for 5 minutes
Feel the surface beneath your seat and the surface beneath your feet.
Feel the warmth of the cup, breathe in the fragrance of your drink
Look at a window while you notice how your body feels—is it open or closed? Locked or unlocked? Does something need to change about the state of the window or door to increase your feeling of safety? If yes, then change it.
Moving your eyes and head slowly and smoothly, explore visually your environment- first to one side, notice the familiar objects around you - then repeat scanning to the otherside. Then up to the ceiling, down to the floor.
Repeat (4.) and notice your breath while looking from side to side.
Always come back with your gaze to the candle in between.
Continue exploring your environment while drinking until the timer is up
